Exploring Psychedelics, Inner Healing, and Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy - Part 3

A Continuation to an Interview with Monica Grey, LCSW, LMT Part 3: Integration, Intention, and the Future of Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy

In this final segment, Monica walks us through the therapeutic structure of ketamine-assisted psychotherapy and what it means to engage in this work with intention. From safety protocols to integration strategies, she describes how ketamine therapy supports deep emotional insight and long-term healing.

  • Interviewer: Can you explain what the full therapeutic process looks like?

  • Monica: “The process begins with a medical assessment, and then two preparatory sessions with a therapist… A full therapeutic course is 6–8 sessions, although an individual can choose to discontinue at any time, or to take time off.”

  • Interviewer: What’s explored during those prep sessions?

  • Monica: “The assessment might address family history, history of substance use, trauma history, and any other life issues that might be pertinent to the journey… to determine what goals the person taking the medicine has for this level of therapy.”

  • Interviewer: What role does the therapist play before, during, and after the session?

  • Monica: “The therapist’s goal… is to provide support, and assist with preparation and integration, after the journey. Any questions that the participant may have will be answered… Journaling is recommended between sessions to track progress, gain insight, or to identify issues.”

  • Interviewer: Some people are curious about the science. How does ketamine work, biologically?

  • Monica: “Ketamine was developed very much on purpose… It is a stimulant, especially at the dose we use here. Unlike typical anesthetics that suppress vital signs, ketamine supports them. That’s part of what makes it so safe in a clinical setting.”

  • Interviewer: As this field grows, what do you find most exciting?

  • Monica: “Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy is an up-and-coming field… one that offers both challenging, and innovative possibilities for the future of psychotherapy, and the alleviation of chronic mental health issues.”

  • Interviewer: For readers who are ready to take the next step, how can they reach you?

  • Monica: “If you are interested in pursuing ketamine sessions, please contact me at (352)448-5836 or email me at monica@florida-acu.com.”
